A Record-Breaking Childhood
Dr. U.P. Sanjana’s list of achievements reads like the resume of a seasoned veteran. At just 11 years old, she holds 5 World Records, 3 Honorary Doctorates, and an astounding collection of 12 Gold, 2 Silver, and 1 Bronze medals from various State Meets.
Her journey began at the incredibly young age of two and a half. By the time she was three, she set her first world record by shooting 1,111 arrows at a target in just 3 hours and 27 minutes.
Pushing Boundaries
What sets Sanjana apart is her fearless approach to archery. For her second world record, she didn't just use a standard bow; she mastered and shot with three different types: Compound, Recurve, and Indian bows, winning gold with all three.
Her third world record is perhaps her most inspiring. Blindfolded, she shot 307 arrows non-stop. Why? "To show that even the visually impaired can learn archery," Sanjana shares. Her empathy and dedication to promoting the sport are as remarkable as her physical talent.
The Architect Behind the Prodigy: Shihan Hussaini (Hu)
Behind every prodigy is a visionary mentor. For Sanjana, it was the late Archery & Karate Legend, Dr. Shihan Hussaini (affectionately known as "Hu"). Recognizing her potential when she was just a toddler holding a tiny plastic bow (gifted by her father's friend), Hu adopted her into his archery program.
"Without him, I am nothing. I was just clay; he is the one who sculpted me," Sanjana reflects emotionally. To her, Hu was a father, teacher, and guide. Despite his tragic passing at age 60, Sanjana feels his blessings remain with her, driving her forward.
The Olympic Dream
Sanjana's daily routine is a testament to her discipline. She arrives at training every single morning at 6:00 AM sharp, without fail. Supported tirelessly by her parents and coaches, she has one singular mission: To win a Gold Medal for India and Tamil Nadu at the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.
"Just like how the arrow I release flies towards the target, my journey is also moving towards that Olympic gold medal,"she says with unwavering confidence.
